Vindonissa
With 3D Data from the roman legion camp of vindonissa, which had been gathered by the archaeology institute of canton Aargau, the i4Ds has built an interactive visualization of this historic site. In our VR studio the archaeologists could navigate through the ancient city in realtime and original scale.
To bring more visual complexity into the already vast model in an efficient manner we applied an automated texturing process that assigns different surfaces to object sides depending on their orientation. A vertical side is considered a wall and receives a brick texture while a side with a certain degree of inclination is interpreted as a roof and hence is textured by tiles, and so on. The floor was textured with a color map assigning grass, street and adobe textures according to the coloring of the map.
