Atmospheric illumination simulation
Light rooms in virtual reality
Virtual reality (VR) allows us to virtually walk through light-rooms, get immersed in ambiences, but also to revise lighting design approaches or to present those already during planning.
The VR lab of the i4Ds is a mobile work environment that allows for the simulation of building projects. The observer navigates through the computer-generated model of a building that can be interactively explored. The stereoscopic realtime representation in natural scale creates the impression of wandering through a real structure. This not only conveys a strong emotional experience but also enhances understanding of the project with regard to content.
The idea of the presented project is to integrate illumination simulations in VR environments in order to support light and illumination designs in virtual work environments. Different scenarios can be compared and optimized and the effects of illumination on different times of the day can be simulated and explored inside the virtual building.
