The invisible medium
Between adaptation and imagination: Research on perception of space in virtual environments
Problem, methodology and goals
The emergence of a medium like virtual reality (VR) alters our perception of reality and gives rise to new phenomena and questions. While research has so far been aimed mostly at technological development in order to ensure a complete illusion, the investigation of media parameters has not received much attention.
The goals of the presented project are to pick up questions about the discourse on media, to address existing conditionings of the viewer more closely, to integrate different layers of perception and to refine VR as a spatial interface. Based on concrete case studies we generate design strategies for virtual work environments and test them in different areas of use.
